How about a Popemobile?

Coming up for auction at Bonham’s later this year is the 1964 Lincoln Continental papal vehicle fabricated for Pope Paul VI’s visit to New York and the World’s Fair. This same vehicle was later used in ticker tape parades for Apollo 10 and 11 astronauts in 1969. Expected to sell for upwards of $350,000, the limo sports plenty of custom attributes including a removable roof section, transparent rear landaulet roof, a raised seat for the Pontiff, supplemental interior lighting, public address system and auxiliary power from a bank of seven batteries.

The limo was made by Chicago’s own coachbuilder Lehmann-Peterson. Lehmann-Peterson was in business for a mere seven years, from 1963-1970, but during that short time they built over 600 limos for government officials, business executives and numerous celebrities including Jackie Gleason, Spencer Tracy, The Supremes, The Rolling Stones, Sophia Loren, Jerry Lewis, Robert Vaughn, Victor Borge, Senator Robert Kennedy, President Lyndon Johnson and Aristotle Onassis.
