By

.

Last month we had our first rain-out in the eight years we’ve been  holding the original Fuelfed Coffee & Classics® in Winnetka. Let’s hope we dodge another thunderstorm this Sunday

Sunday, May, 28th from 9:00am to 11:00am for the first C&C of 2017. Yep, rain or shine.

First a little Spring garage cleaning.

1. Coffee & Classics is a private club event for current Fuelfed club members. C&C is not an open car show for every & any car. There are plenty of other car events with that format. However, if you have a classic European car manufactured prior to 1990, you can make adonation of $10 at the main gate for entry with your car. We encourage you to join Fuelfed and your $10 will be credited to your membership dues.

Members who have not yet received their 2017 membership packets, your name be will on the list at the main gate.

2. Please arrive at 9:00am, not 8:30am. Our village event permit states that we keep these times in check. Village parking enforcement will be in play before 9:00am and after 11:00am.

3. Those posting pictures online, we ask that give the courtesy to let others know you were at Fuelfed Coffee & Classics. And yes. Fuelfed has an official Instagram account #fuelfedcarclub.

Fuelfed Coffee & Classics Barrington Recap

May 24, 2017

.

For last Sunday’s Fuelfed Coffee & Classics Barrington we started with questionable weather, but she held back to allow drivers to feel confident to bring their precious iron.

.

.

And out they came. Dennis debuted his new FrankenRacer based on a TR3. Robert’s Countach made it. We’re honored that Bob’s stunning silver 250 Berlinetta has become a Barrington staple. Detomaso Magusto… we’ll take two please. The other crowd pleasers were the fleet of Polish Fiat racers and military service truck. Mike’s Doretti and Bob’s unrestored black Ferrari 250GT PF never let down.

.

.

We want to thank Epicure and Ambrosia for serving up the coffee, pastries and brunch.

As is our event policy, rain or shine and we’ll let the drivers decide if they want to drive or not. The weather predicted 90% of rain for our first Coffee & Classics® of 2017. Unfortunately they were right for once. Nonstop rain all morning. Up went the blue rain tents for the first time in our eight year history of Coffee & Classics.

We have to thank all the workers that proved their integrity by doing their job regardless. A big thanks to Mel, Jean, Neal, Sid, Scott, Howard, Shahin, little Justin, John, John S., Dennis & Patrick.

.

.

Well, they did come one by one. Someone must have announced that it was beige German car day, as half the cars were just that. Several new members in their British iron made the trip, even the little 2CV from Barrington, and yes they all started.

.

.

As drab as it was, about 35 members came out just to support the effort in their modern cars. The blue tents became the mecca for rainy morning car chat.

.

.

Not up to the normal Fuelfed standards attendance-wise, but everyone enjoyed each others company and that’s what Fuelfed is truly about.

The Chicago Perspective on Fuelfed Coffee & Classics FTL

April 25, 2017

.

We had the great fortune to combine a business trip the same weekend of Fuelfed Coffee & Classics Fort Lauderdale. We’ve all seen the pictures and heard the reports from our man Martin, but never actually met any of the people, nor witnessed the cars.

.

.

First and foremost, Martin could not be a better host and Fuelfed brand ambassador, and we are grateful to have him in our garage. We met Martin at an early 7:30am at his garage and, yes, it was still painfully darkish. Martin insisted that his classics be driven by his associates from the hinterland. Lorraine drove the famous silver 2002tii touring and I drove the e34 “Fire Car”. Yes, a real fire marshal car straight from Germany. The stunning 2.0 four banger was challenged to keep up with the 2002tii.

.

.

We pulled into the lot across from the mighty Atlantic at Las Olas and the A1A and quickly got coffees to fight the cool breeze off the ocean.

Cars started to arrive one after another and Martin quickly greeted each one of them with a handshake.

.

.

All were happy to see their monthly car buddies, similar to how Fuelfed started the Sunday morning events 8 years ago. Every car was different. Different as in a 1950s DKW cabriolet, BMW Z1, BMW e34 Euro M5 Touring and 356 cabrio with ultra-rare hard top.

.

.

Martin made sure he talked to everyone in attendance as well as making it a point that everyone know that there were special guests from Fuelfed Chicago. This led to offers for Lorraine to drive her two all-time favorites: the 356 and 280sl. Something we hadn’t experienced since the late Peter D. trustingly gave us the keys to his F40.

.

.

The vibe is definitely a very friendly and a tight group of enthusiasts eager to share all things European.

.

.

We spent time comparing vintage touring notes with Dirk de Groen, the president of the BMWCCCoA, which then led to insiders’ tips on where to go in Miami. Wynwood…yes!

We spent time talking MGs, Alfa Milanos, 6 series, restored 914s and 1 owner e30 M3s and Grey Goose Rolls… but doesn’t everyone?

Overall, we love the group of big-hearted friendly enthusiasts Martin has brought together under the Fuelfed umbrella. The C&C-FTL experience made us appreciate all the people that make our events a stand-out.

Bring on the first C&C Winnetka of 2017! Oh wait, that’s this coming Sunday!

.

Big Thanks to Martin!

December 25, 2016

.

We want to give a BIG shout out and thank you to Martin Meissner for all the hard work he’s doing down in Fort Lauderdale running our Coffee & Classics FTL. Martin could not be a better Fuelfed brand ambassador with his extreme passion for classic European cars and his jovial & welcoming persona.

We had to dig up the 2011 video of Martin and his rare 2000tii to prove they both haven’t aged a bit.

If you are near FTL on the last Sunday of the month, make your way over to Las Olas Blvd. & A1A by 8:00am and buy the guy in above 2011 C&C clip a cup of coffee.

Final Fuelfed Coffee & Classics of 2016 This Sunday in Winnetka

October 28, 2016

fuelfed_oct_cc_postcard

.

Sadly this is the final Coffee & Classics for 2016. As a tribute to the closure of the driving season, we are having a Fuelfed member drive up Sheridan Rd. to Lake Forest. We will assemble around the Village Park just east of C&C and depart sharply at 11:15. The drive culminates in the parking lot where we hold the OPEN.

.

.

The rules we seem to always have to enforce:

1. Coffee & Classics is a private Fuelfed club event for our members, not an open cruise in.

2. Like the name states: “Classics.” In our case, classic European cars 1990 and older.

3. As has been in our bylaws since 2011, no soliciting. That means:
• No For Sale signs, business cards
• Flyers of any kind
• Pitching services or events to attendees
• This also includes no coming in on a Day Pass and having For Sale on the car’s display sheet
If you are interested in proper marketing opportunities with Fuelfed, please inquire.

4. All bicycles must be walked and kept at a 5-foot distance from the cars. Strollers must also be keep at a 5-foot distance.

We are working to always keep our events pure to the spirit our members have come to expect.
