What Would the Stig Drive?

No not that Stig. The real Stig, as in Stig Blomqvist from Sweden. Stig made his international breakthrough in 1971 racing Saabs. Driving an Audi Quattro for the Audi factory team, Blomqvist won the World Rally Championship drivers’ title in 1984 and finished runner-up in 1985.

He won his home event, the Swedish Rally, seven times. Outside the WRC, he won the British Rally Championship in 1983 and the Swedish Rally Championship several times. At the Race of Champions, Blomqvist took the title “Champion of Champions” in 1989 and 1990 driving for Ford.

Sunday evening we had a Fuelfed Steering Committee BBQ to go over the 2014 club agenda. We were treated to a few of the worlds greatest Group B rally cars from the greatest era in WRC history, including Stigs’ personal RS200 as well as some savory Italian vintage muscle. And not in the least, exceptional hospitality by our host.
