Chevrolet Speedometer Design Study

by

Christian Annyas is a self-proclaimed “online curator of all things typographic and cinema”. That covers a lot of area, but his site and blog are well worth a Fuelfed visit. Everything from Saul Bass movie posters to hand-lettered department store logos gets the spotlight here.

The blog entry studying 60 years of Chevrolet speedometer designs is of particular interest. His graphic treatment of the speedometers deconstructs them to their basic essence, a perfect way to contrast the changes in design ideation over the years (pictured is from the 1966 Chevy Nova). Dashboard and gauge design is truly an art and Annyas’ treatment of one marque gives a well-deserved nod to this often overlooked styling.

Make sure you give yourself ample time to wade around in this visually striking site.
