June Coffee & Classics

Well it took until June for the weather to cooperate for our Coffee & Classics mornings. The warm June temps and blue skies sure brought out the enthusiasts. We had 74 cars and who knows how many curious visitors. The range of cars was spectacular, from Aurelia to Messerschmit and everything in between. Jump to the gallery below to check out some of what drove up.

We arrived early to set up signs and grab some coffee & scones. But we weren’t alone, most of the 356 crew was already there, with Alan parked in his usual corner spot.

Super Car Saturdays must be losing ground after moving to Bolingbrook, as five late model Lambos and a Viper were there early and parked sheepishly at the other end of the block.

Which brings up the sensitive topic of what cars should show at the Coffee & Classics. So we must go back to the whole premise of Coffee & Classics. It is intended for enthusiasts bringing their classic car out to meet and converse with other Northshore classic car enthusiasts. A classic car (according to us) is a vehicle twenty years or older. While we all appreciate current exotics, we would like all drivers to reserve the northern half of Lincoln and Elm for classics only and future classics to park south of Elm.

Another aspect of C & C gathering that’s different than all the others is a focus on classic European metal. We know the muscle car enthusiasts don’t want to hear it, but the feed back from most participants and spectators is that’s what they like about C & C. So let’s keep the seeing MG’s, BMW’s & Porsches.

Dave and Martin were brave enough to give a feature interview with Lorraine and Frank about their BMW 2000 sedan and 2000tii touring respectively.

Overall, Coffee & Classics is evolving into a popular venue for local collectors and enthusiasts and each month is always a surprise as to what drive up. But the best aspect has got to be to great drivers we meet. Everyone is excited to swap stories, parts contacts or restoration tips.

The village of Winnetka has been very patient and supportive as each month the event grows as local families discover the fabulous display of unique automotive history right in their own backyard.

We want to thank the Winnetka Patch for doing nice feature on us.

We would also like to thank Dan Fogel who provided us with some nice photographs, which can also viewed here. Dan is now blaming C&C for igniting a new obsession with MKI VW Rabbits. Glad we could fuel the worthy vice Dan.
