Fuelfed Retro Night at Gingerman Raceway

Finally we made some time to get over to South Haven, MI for some track time. The weather in Chicago was ominous, which scared the less committed drivers, but we luckily missed the big squalls crossing the midwest and made the drive east.

We arrived to basically have the whole track to ourselves. A simple drivers meeting and the track was ours. Two novices and the salty veteran ran a conga line for a few laps and then it was up for grabs.

Jeff in the Miata turbo. Frank in the resto-mod 2002 you readers are getting accustomed to seeing here, and myself in the Rabbit GTI.

The 2002 was the obvious favorite with the spectators, especially since it spent most of time in the pits. But any virgin track car, especially after a full restoration and fresh engine rebuild, is going to have some teething pains when pushed to perform at its limits. By the third hour, Frank had the ’02 dialed-in but was still suffering from fuel starvation in corners. But overall the ’02 put a perm-a-smirk on Franks face.

Jeff and I felt our cars did well as they too were track -virgins. The Miata could use some motor mounts to avoid a money shift disaster and the GTI some real track tires. But over all a very enjoyable afternoon.

Darkness started to fall as we  packed up and headed to Bartlets for ribs, beers and the all important bench racing.

Next Fuelfed Gingerman T&T is July 19th. Check the Events Page for other dates as well.
